Good questions.
Honest answers.
A little clarity before you connect anything.
Can you work with devices I already own?
Often, yes. Send the brand and exact model of the devices you want to keep. Compatibility depends on the feature you need, the firmware and whether the manufacturer allows local or cloud integration. We check before recommending a setup.
Do I need to make my whole house smart?
No. Start with one useful outcome, such as a garage reminder, a leak alert or a reliable evening lighting scene. A larger system can be planned in phases.
Is there a monthly fee?
Home Assistant software does not require a subscription. Hardware, installation and any agreed support are separate. Optional remote-access services and some device manufacturers may charge subscriptions; these should be identified in the proposal.
What works if the internet goes down?
Supported local devices and local routines can continue while the hub, network and devices have power. Cloud-dependent features and remote notifications may stop. We define and test the behaviour of the chosen system.
Will my light switches still work?
Keeping familiar manual control is a design priority. The result depends on the selected devices and wiring. We explain the behaviour during normal use and when the smart-home hub is offline.
How much will my project cost?
The scope comes first: existing equipment, cable routes, number of devices, integrations and any trade work all affect price. Ask for a written proposal separating equipment, installation, configuration and optional ongoing support.
Do you perform electrical and plumbing work?
The service focuses on smart-home setup, integration and appropriate installation work. Regulated electrical, plumbing or HVAC work must be scoped separately for appropriately qualified contractors, with permits where required.
Is this a monitored security service?
No. Cameras, sensors and notifications described here help you check on your home. They do not include a monitoring centre, emergency dispatch or a guarantee of preventing damage or intrusion.
Who owns the accounts and configuration?
The setup should use your accounts, with owner access handed over to you. Any remote support access should be agreed, limited and removable. Backup and recovery instructions are part of a clear handover.
Can I get help after installation?
Discuss support when planning the project. The proposal should explain what is included at handover, how later changes are handled and the cost of additional help. No 24/7 response is promised.
